Tzedakah (Hands-On Track): Dyeing & Doykheit: An exploration of natural dyeing, connection to land and Jewish diaspora with Sarit Cantor
(Materials fee $30)

These sessions will explore concepts of place, belonging, diaspora and connection to land through the transformative practice of natural textile dyeing. We will look at texts on sacred Jewish garments and how we can connect with our current landscape as a way of grounding into our ancestral wisdoms.

This class will be approaching these topics through a decolonial lens and asking participants to think critically about what it means to be living on the Dish with One Spoon Treaty Territory. We will be using the teachings of our Jewish ancestors to help dream up the decolonial future that we are striving towards.

Sarit Cantor is a white Ashkenazi Jewish settler, community organizer and textile artist. She is studying Ashkenazi healing practices at York University and studying at the Kohenet Institute with Rabbi Jill Hammer. She teaches sewing, quilting and textile dyeing classes at The Make Den in Toronto

T’shuvah (Judaism + Modernity Track): Returning, Repenting & Reconnecting with Yacov Fruchter

Join Yacov Fruchter as we explore contemporary and traditional ideas of repentance and the relationships we strive to heal through text study, storytelling, song and facilitated discussion.

Be prepared to go deep.

Yacov Fruchter is a Montreal Jew, and currently the Director of Community Building and Spiritual Engagement at Beth Tzedec Congregation. In Toronto he has been a Jewish educator at Hillel Canada and the Spiritual Leader of the Annex Shul. Yacov has recently graduated from a Master’s of Pastoral Studies program with a certificate in Spiritual Care and Psychotherapy at Emmanuel College, University of Toronto.

T’fillah (Text and Context Track): Learning to Live Whole-Heartedly with Rabbi Julia Appel

Using the teachings of Chassidic and mystical masters, contemporary poets and philosophers, and wellness practitioners, we will explore the themes of the High Holidays -- aiming to create a more whole-hearted and good life for ourselves and the world.

Rabbi Julia Appel is the Senior Jewish Educator and Campus Rabbi at Hillel at the University of Toronto. She is a powerful prayer-leader and helps people navigate life’s joys, challenges, and changes.
