The Modern Jewish Experience: Text & Context

Department of Adult Learning
Course Description

Thursdays | beginning February 15 | 9:15-10:45 am | 10 sessions

Dr. David Kaufman

Unfolding over the past four centuries, the modern era has been “the best of times and the worst of times” for the Jewish people. We will read primary documents as windows into the various movements and trends that have made Jewish modernity both momentous and fascinating. By learning to apply a historical lens to modern Jewish culture, politics, and religion, we will better understand our personal experience of being a Jew in the twenty-first century.
